Editing a Page on WikiHealthCare

How do I edit a WikiHealthCare page?

Answer: There are two ways to edit page content on WikiHealthCare.
  • Click on the tool bar pencil icon (pencil) at the top of the page
  • Click on the pencil icon and word "edit" that you find within certain pages

I can't find the edit button. How do I edit this page?

Answer: If you can't find an edit button on the page, you don't have permission to edit it. Some pages are considered off limits (such as the Policies or the Disclaimer. If you have a suggestion for modifying a page that is not editable, use the discussion page (click on the bubble icon at the top of the page) to post your suggestion, or contact a site administrator.

Why does the edit page look different from the page I am trying to edit?

Answer: The edit page typically includes basic text as well as the special codes needed to make that text appear correctly on the web page. Some of this code may be standard hypertext markup language (HTML) and some of it is specifically used within the wiki application. Use the toolbar buttons at the top of the edit screen to help you insert special formatting (like bold text, italics, superscripts, underlining or strikethrough).

You can also click on the Text Formatting, Text Formatting FAQ or the documentation links (found on the bottom of every edit page) for more information on page editing techniques (like how to use color, or do just about anything else that a traditional webpage can do).

To insert a hyperlink, just type the WikiHealthCare page name (i.e., WikiHealthCareDisclaimer) or paste the web address into the text like (i.e., http://www.google.com), and it will be automatically linked on the web page. Or if you want the link to appear as text, use the basic format: [[http://www.google.com][Google]] and your hyperlink will appear like this: Google.

Click on the edit icon (pencil) at the top of the page to see how this text was coded.

Can I cut and paste text from a Microsoft Word document into the edit screen?

Answer: Yes, but you will lose most of the formatting that may have existed in the word document. You may also find that when you return to edit the page, special characters like quotes and apostrophies may appear as an odd string of characters. In other words, you may need to clean up the pasted text to make it appear more professional.
