This is the proper direction to be taken regarding this Standard and Element of Performance. Pharmacist labor shortages combined with more pressing areas of medication safety should absolve hospital pharmacists from any type of contrast or radiopharmaceutical review.

Attempts at our hospital to insert pharmacist contrast order review secondary to radiologist and/or attending physician absence placed pharmacists in a position of approving contrast administration for patients without the benefit of sufficient historical medical information with the added pressure of keeping Radiology workflow and scheduling moving forward unimpeded. Appropriate screening tools and the use of protocols decveloped through multi-disciplinary efforts is the most practical approach.
