Performance Requirement

A Performance Requirement is an objective and measurable description of an action, outcome, or observable behavior. A performance requirement contains only one concept, unless the ideas belong together or are inseparable.

For example:

  • A standard may require that an organization maintain the privacy and confidentiality of patient information.
  • Compliance with this broadly defined concept can be evaluated through the use of a number of objective and measurable descriptions of actions, outcomes, or observable behaviors that are related to it. In this example, performance requirements might include:
    • The organization has a written policy for addressing the privacy and confidentiality of information that is based on and consistent with the law or regulations,
    • The organization monitors compliance with the policy,
    • Etc.
